MEL (Mindful Effective Learning)

is an effective and mindful way of learning

Learn by regulation

Learn effectively

Mindful and effective learning implies developing your self-regulating skills while studying based on autonomy, self-monitoring and self-efficacy.

more

It is not enough to study to learn effectively, but it is necessary to study using self-regulation skills.

Self-regulated learning implies the ability to regulate attention and concentration, to manage emotions and to find the right motivation, to be aware of one’s actions and the functioning of one’s own mind (metacognition).

For self regulated learning, it is fundamental to be able to use effective study strategies and techniques such as organizing, planning and managing study-time efficiently, processing academic contents using different techniques such as logical maps, monitoring and evaluating one’s own studying, preparing for an exam using appropriate strategies.

Achieve your goals

Achieve goals

Mindful and effective learning allows you to achieve the goals you have set in your study experience and also, in general, in your whole life.

more

If, during our university experience, we learn effectively, we are therefore able to achieve the goals we desire and that our academic career requires of us. These goals may include the completion of exams in an assigned time and/or the results obtained in the examinations.

In addition to these objectives there are others that are no less important, which can make the academic experience increasingly positive. Studying with serenity, interest and pleasure, studying with a motivation based on the desire to master what you learn, to be able to use the academic experience as a reason for personal growth and development, & to acquire a deep and rooted knowledge that aims at achieving recognition of the Self.

Develop yourself

Grow yorself

Mindful and effective learning allows you to develop and realize your potential, in your learning experience and therefore in your life.

more

MEL courses are based on the idea that every human being has a learning potential that can be expressed. Every human being has inner resources that are waiting to be seen, enhanced and expressed, such as creativity, resilience and determination.

MEL means transforming the hindering beliefs of oneself into more effective, new ones and opening oneself to the possibility of experiencing change and transformation of one’s own behavior.

Being able to learn, understand things in depth, using the acquired knowledge and obtaining good results improves the perception of oneself. High self-esteem and self-efficacy are the basis of personal development and growth.

Improve connections

Grow yorself

Mindful and effective learning helps you improve your sharing skills and therefore improve the quality of your social relationships.

more

ME learning is based on sharing knowledge and knowing. Studying with others is a precious way of increasing the effectiveness of study sessions and it is an experience of great value.

By attending MEL group courses, social relations are improved because the skills, that allow sharing with other group members to occur, are improved: one learns to communicate and to listen. These skills are developed by cultivating awareness of what is experienced in the present moment, letting go of the beliefs we have of others and of ourselves and accepting others in a non-judgmental way. When we succeed at this, we are able to meet each other in confidence and all obstacles are dissolved.

The MEL abilities we train in our courses

The awareness of what is in the present moment

Awareness

Awareness is a resource available in each of us. Just train it. It is a capacity that everyone is able to develop over time in an increasingly stable and accurate manner. Being aware during the performance of daily activities produces many benefits such as the ability to be focused on the task at hand and the ability to recognize and welcome what emerges in the present moment within us (emotions, thoughts …) and around us (events, perceptions …). These beneficial effects are crucial for developing effective and self-regulated learning based on metacognitive skills related to self-awareness.

The MEL courses propose mindfulness practices that aims at increasing the ability to be aware in the present moment.

The ability to regulate attention and emotions

Emotions

Emotions can influence learning. Anxiety can keep us from studying and can cause us to fail an exam. On the contrary, positive emotions, due to their relation to cognitive resources and motivation, promote effective learning . It is therefore crucial to adjust negative emotions and cultivate positive ones.

The ability to be firmly attentive during learning is very important. We often get distracted and therefore waste time and see our frustration grow. Therefore it is essential to train our attention to be more permanently focused.

MEL courses train the ability to self-regulate attention and the ability to manage emotions through the use of mindfulness.

The ability to nurture motivation

Motivation

The term “motivation” derives from the verb to move and therefore indicates what moves us in life. Developing the right motivation is very important in learning contexts. Motivation is a multidimensional construct that can be broken down into various aspects. Having goals of mastery rather than performance goals promotes study performance and the possibility of achieving good academic results. An incremental vision of one’s own intelligence, rather than a static vision, is a sign of academic success. High self-efficacy helps us to be tenacious in addressing the challenges that the academic career imposes on us.

MEL courses use coaching that aims to turn the motivational components of one’s learning into positive ones.

The use of effective study strategies

Strategies

Being capable of self-regulation and having the correct motivation are not sufficient to reach MEL. It is also essential to use appropriate study strategies concerning the ability to organize and process academic content, the ability to plan and efficiently manage study-time, the ability to monitor and evaluate one’s own learning and the way one studies and finally the ability to prepare for an exam using appropriate techniques. In fact, there are various study techniques that have proved crucial for a good academic performance. Among many, for example, the interleaving practice, the practice of active recall and spaced retrieval.

The MEL courses promote the acquisition of such strategies and techniques through experiential activities offered in a group-coaching setting.
